Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary
Mulliner Bentley's bespoke coachbuilding unit has created a unique keycase to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Bentley. Made from Dark Stained Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it includes a fluttering 'B' paperweight, a set of keys, and a brochure with never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre images.
This is a great method to welcome a brand new car owner.
Aesthetics
Bentley is a company that takes its aesthetics seriously. It shows in the precision placement of its quilting, the choice of leather sourced from by-products of cattle production, the wood that comes from sustainably managed forests and the creative patterns on its levers. A car like the Continental GT W12 beckons as you approach it with its striking sculptural appeal and power through carefully planned lighting.
The Continental GT is Bentley's most sophisticated open-top car. Its rear tonneau, as an example, showcased the largest piece of book-matched, dark-stained Burr Walnut veneer ever applied to the production Bentley. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.
It is this unique design, quality and attention to detail that has established Bentley as the world's most sought-after car brand. The company continues to push boundaries with the latest technologies and hand-crafted products. This includes the introduction of an electronic tilt-opening rear sunroof and a handcrafted Apple iPad docking station.
Bentley celebrated its 100th anniversary this year, a century after it was established. The marque, currently owned by Volkswagen independently following years of dispute with BMW and Volkswagen, had planned a series of special launches and events to mark this significant occasion. The marque planned a number special events and launches to celebrate the historic occasion before planning for a pandemic became a top priority.
Design
Bentley is a renowned brand for its luxurious and ostentatious automobiles, but even the keys are designed to make a statement. The Bentayga Key is made of sterling silver and features a large B' logo to signal to everyone that you're driving a Bentley. The key is also inscribed with the dates 1919 and 2019, to commemorate the company's centennial.

The rear seats are designed to provide passengers with unmatched comfort and privacy. They were inspired by the luxurious private aircraft. The unique heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system was developed to provide each passenger with the perfect temperature control.
In addition to a set of elegantly executed styling revisions and a host of elegantly executed styling changes, the Mulsanne is powered by twin-turbocharged 6.75-litre W12 engine that produces 560bhp and 479lb ft of torque. This power is paired with a new suspension system that offers Bentley's signature smooth ride.
Bentley has introduced a special specification for cars made after the year 2019 to commemorate its centenary. This is called the Centenary Specification. This includes cross-stitching and contrast stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are stitched in Centenary Gold, adding to the feeling of celebration. A bespoke Bentley key case is included in the Centenary Specification, making the Bentley experience all-inclusive.
Function
The Bentley Mulsanne key comes with an open button on the trunk and a second button which starts the car. It also has a switch to turn on the parking break. There is a knob that can fold and unfold the mirrors while parking in tight spaces. This feature makes it easier to get in and out of your car.
The key is made from vegetable tanned leather. It takes about two days to make each one. The key is cut by hand, then shaped, stitched after which it is sealed and polished to give a superior result. It is durable small and compact, and it fits the Bentley key perfectly. Its design is similar with the Volkswagen Phaeton's big car key, but it feels heavier and more luxurious.
It is also equipped with Secure-A-Key which prevents theft of keys with no key. This device is put into the remote control fob and disables it in the event that the key isn't used for a few minutes. It blocks thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices which can unlock and start the vehicle.
Bentley's distinctive design reflects the company's values of fine craftsmanship engineering expertise, as well as modern technology. Over 4,000 people work at its Crewe headquarters, where they are responsible for the design, development, and production of Bentley cars. These workers utilize the skills passed over generations and then apply them to the latest in technology in the automotive industry. This is British manufacturing at its best.
Personalisation
Bentley's bespoke division, Mulliner, allows customers to design their own vehicle. The "mood station" lets guests pick images that inspire them. They can choose anything from scenic vistas and sporting events. When each selection is made, a pattern appears and reveals the design and color preferences for the personalized Bentley.
The guests receive the keys in a case designed by hand, which contains the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. The keys can also be outfitted with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps which light the door's opening pathway with the owner's name and/or emblem when they make their way towards the vehicle.
Bentley claims it takes about 500 man-hours to craft and assemble the average Mulsanne. The reluctance to embrace new technology is the key to this lengthy and laborious process. Instead of using a machine to place the perfectly matched leather seats, workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. Drivers are required to park their vehicles manually, rather than relying on sensors built into the vehicle to direct them to perpendicular and parallel spots.
Bentley displayed its Mulliner personalization abilities with a special Mulsanne W.O. Edition, which pays homage to William Osler, the founder of Bentley. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays tribute to the founding father of the brand, William Osler Bentley. The limited-edition cars come with a special key that displays an image of the 1930 8 Litre's crankshaft.
