After the case has been opened then you can prepare the new key by combining the lower portion of the key that was used previously with the banana and transponder on the new key. Once the battery is removed, you can remove all the trim pieces and dashboard pieces that surround the steering wheel. How to Replace the Ignition Key on the Saab XC90
If your SAAB 9-3 key fob is having trouble turning the lock barrel it could be time to replace it. Fortunately, the process is relatively simple and doesn't require you to visit an agent. Instead you can do it yourself at home by using the help of a few tools.
First, you'll need to prepare the new key. Before you start, ensure that the anti-theft feature is disabled by placing blocks on your rear wheels and activating the handbrake. After that, insert the key into the ignition and switch it to the on position which activates the accessories, but does not start the engine. Repeat this process five times, then leave the key in the on position.
Next, you'll need to get a replacement case for your old key fob. They can be found at any auto parts shop, and they're typically very affordable. Based on the model, you can even buy them without electronic components.
To open the case, place a flathead screwdriver inside the slot in the middle and slowly work it. The case will split easily, and when you do, you'll have access to the internal electronics. To take the electronics out, employ a small screwdriver and attempt to pull them out in a gentle manner.
